[Durham INC] We can all help make sure Durham Public School students have adequate school supplies

We all can help make sure that children in Durham Public Schools have the
supplies they need!   The Durham Rotary Clubs’ “Fill that Bus!” drive will
run between July 1 and August 3.  Businesses and other organizations
throughout Durham will place bins (about the size of the ones used to store
holiday decorations) in their facilities for employees and
customers/clients to donate school supplies.   On August 3 (tax free
weekend) a school bus will be located in the parking lot on Shannon Road
where Office Depot and Sam’s Club are located.  Rotarians will be at the
bus to collect supplies.

 In 2011, Rotary collected $5,500 in supplies, in 2012 Rotary collected
$30,000 in supplies, and the goal for 2013 is $50,000 in supplies.  So far,
over 100 organizations have signed up to host bins.  However, to meet our
goal, we need more bins to be placed.

Would your business, employer, or organization be willing to host a bin?  If
so, please contact me at Nordstrom.marge at gmail.com.

Also, I’m wondering if neighborhoods would be interested in organizing a
drive to collect supplies.  Does anyone have any ideas?  If there are any
block parties or other neighborhood events  scheduled around this time
(doesn’t need to be within the exact dates of 7/1-8/3), it could be a great
time to have a bin(s) available.

I don’t want to make this email too long so I’m attaching two files that
provide details about the “Fill That Bus” campaign.  One provides
information about the drive and the other is a flyer about this year’s
drive.  Bottom line is that every child in Durham Public Schools should
have adequate supplies for learning and teachers should not have to pay
from their pockets to make sure these supplies are available.
