INC members. For the good of Durham neighborhoods you're urged to send now
an e mail to each of the Joint City County Planning Committee members re
deployment of cell towers in residential zones.

Joint City County Planning Committee: Neighborhoods find the proposed cell
tower revision Planning Dept. has posted for JCCPC's agenda Sept 4, lacking:
Leaving tower fall zones that protect surrounding structures open to
negotiation compromises our public safety; dismissing liability insurance
throws out accountability of tower owners; letting towers up to 60ft be
approved by the Planning Director rather than by elected officials cuts out
citizen notification-- new legislation allows existing and new towers to
easily grow 40ft higher and wider, so the neighborhood soon has a 100ft
super-tree-with arms, all without its input. We request a hearing with
JCCPC on Planning's proposed changes re cell towers in residential zones so
that you as an advisory body get residents' feedback before you recommend
this draft with lots of unresolved issues to City Council and The Board of
Commissioners.

Remember that INC sent a resolution May 25 and a letter Aug 2 to City
Council and the Board of County Commissioners to follow up INC's March
request for revision of Durham's Wireless Communications Facility Ordinance
to include citizen participation in siting cell towers in residential zones.
Public may attend Sept 4 meeting, 9.30am 2nd Floor City Hall but usually may
not speak. Don't let this advisory body send advice to Council and
Commissioners without an opportunity for neighborhoods' response.
