Good afternoon,

Current forecasts indicate we may have an enhanced risk of flash flooding and local area flooding in portions of western and central North Carolina late Sunday through Tuesday (OCT 6-8). Tropical Storm KAREN will move north across the Gulf of Mexico and may potentially become a hurricane. (KAREN is predicted to be a strong tropical storm - winds of 70 MPH - at landfall.) The storm will likely merge with a passing weather front near the Gulf Coast on Sunday. This front and the remnants of KAREN will move northeast and pass through the state on Monday (OCT 7) bringing rainfall amounts of 0.50" to 2.50" to western and central North Carolina. There is still much uncertainty with this forecast. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates through the weekend. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Respectfully,

Bob Boyd
