ANNOUNCEMENT
The Durham Board of County Commissioners solicits applicants to fill positions on the following citizen boards and commissions:

*         Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee (3 At-Large Positions - 3 Unexpired Terms)
o   This committee's primary function is to maintain the rights of residents living in adult care homes including assisted living facilities and family care homes. They serve as the link between the community and the homes, seeking to increase community involvement and, at the same time, promoting community education and awareness of the needs of the residents in these homes

*         Animal Control Advisory Committee (1 At-Large Position)
o   This committee's primary function is to advise the Board of County Commissioners and the County Manager with respect to animal control matters. The committee is responsible for reporting activities, findings and recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners annually


*         Community Child Protection Team/Child Fatality Prevention Team (2 Positions - 1 At-Large; 1 Fire/EMS Personnel)
o   This team promotes the development of a community-wide approach to the problems of child abuse and neglect and seeks ways to protect children from preventable deaths. The team reviews selected cases that are being serviced by child protective services and cases in which a child had died of suspected abuse or neglect

*         Environmental Affairs Board (1 Air Resources Position)

 *   This is an advisory board of appointed volunteer citizens to provide the City and County with expert and comprehensive advice on various environmental matters. It is also a mechanism for facilitating communication between the public and local government leaders. The board considers topics such as watershed protection, natural resource protection, air quality and energy conservation

*         EMS Council (5 positions - 1 New Hope VFD; 1 City of Durham Fire Department; 1 Durham County Sheriff's Department; 1 Durham Emergency Operations Center and 1 N.C. Highway Patrol)

o   The purpose of the council is to assist in the planning, development and implementation of a County Emergency Medical Services System in the geographical area covered by the EMS System and the Council. The goal of the Council is to be involved and ensure the provision of a high quality of pre-hospital care to persons in need of Emergency Medical Services within the geographical area of responsibility


*         Farmland Protection Advisory Board (5 Positions - 1 Business Representative; 1 Oak Grove Township; 1 Cape Fear VAD; 1 Flat River VAD; 1 Little River VAD)

o   The board actively works with farmers, the community, government entities, agencies and other resources to identify and implement strategies for preservation and enhancement of the farming community by protecting land and soils for future generations.  The Farmland Protection Advisory Board seeks to promote the best use of land in Durham County, so that development and growth will be accompanied by protection of our attractive and ecologically desirable forests and farms



*         Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee (4 Positions - 1 At-Large; 3 At-Large - unexpired terms)

o   The purpose of the committee is to maintain the rights of residents living in nursing homes. The committee serves as the link between the community and the homes, seeking to increase community involvement and, at the same time, promoting community education and awareness of the needs of the resident in these homes
*      Public Health Board (1 Engineer Position)
o   The board formulates policies and procedures for the Durham County Department of Public Health. The board works with Public Health Department administrators, clinicians, staff and our community to promote health, protect the environment and prevent disease

*      Transportation Advisory Board (2 At-Large Positions)

o   This board ensures that the Durham County Community Transportation Program is rooted in community needs and delivered in a way that intended audiences can and will participate. The board makes program recommendations, helps set priorities, approves funding allocations to human service agencies, evaluates the impact of existing programs, advocates for community needs, and communicates transportation programs and services to the greater community
*      Triangle J Water Resources Committee (1 At-Large Position)

o   This committee considers issues relative to water resource matters in the Triangle J area. The Triangle J Council of Governments Water Resources Program is home to numerous partnerships and programs that help manage water supply and water quality in the Cape Fear (which contains Jordan lake) and Neuse (which contains Falls Lake) river basins
Property tax listing must be current.  County and City taxes must not reflect any delinquencies
before an application is considered.

Monday, November 25, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Commissioners' Meeting Room, second floor, Durham County Government Administrative Complex, 200 East Main Street
