New City Hall This Week Begins December 6

Installation Ceremony Held for City Council Members
Durham's City Council now includes both new and familiar faces. An installation ceremony for Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell and Council Members Cora Cole-McFadden, Eddie Davis, and Don Moffitt was held on December 2. Davis was elected to represent Ward II, a seat that had been held by Howard Clement since 1983. Clement decided not to run for re-election this year, and was honored along with the newly elected council at a reception before the ceremony.

City Releases Annual Audit and Financial Report
The City's annual audit and financial report for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 are offering a favorable snapshot of the way Durham conducts its business. The City's bottom line increased during the year by $33 million, and it maintained its AAA Bond rating from all three bond rating agencies for the 13th consecutive year. The general fund balance was at 13.5 percent - more than the 12 percent balance that the City Council has agreed should be maintained at all times.

City Council Approves Planning Department's Work Program
The City Council has approved the City/County Planning Department's 2014 work program and the extra funding needed to make it happen. The work program outlines the various processes and projects the department will focus on over the coming year. The City and County usually share the costs associated with the program, but this year, the County reduced the amount it is willing to pay. Find out what the City is doing to make sure the priorities outlined in the program can still be met.

Old North Durham Park Open to the Public
Old North Durham Park is officially back open to the public. The recently completed renovations to the park include the installation of new and replacement storm drainage pipe and storm drainage structures, re-grading the field, the installation of sod on the athletic and multi-use field, and installation of an irrigation system. A new sidewalk into the park, a new drinking fountain, and new trees were also added.
