New City Hall This Week Begins December 13

DPAC Celebrates Five Successful Years
The Durham Performing Arts Center is celebrating a milestone - its fifth anniversary as one of the premier venues in the state and in the nation. A reception was held on December 10 to mark the occasion and the tremendous success DPAC has experienced over the past five years. The City and the facility's management company also used the event as a backdrop for the signing of their new partnership agreement. Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell explains how the relationship between the City and PFM/Nederlander has impacted the success of DPAC.

Parking Fee Discussion Continues
The City Council and City Administration are working to protect longtime downtown residents from what they see as a dramatic parking fee increase. The proposed increase is a result of a recent parking study conducted on how all City-owned parking facilities are run. Council members say they won't make a decision on the fee increase until they hear back from the City Attorney's Office on whether a legal avenue for discounted parking for those residents can be found.

City Receives Budget Award for 25th Consecutive Year
The City has been recognized once again for the way it reports its budget. This is the 25th consecutive year that the City received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The awards program is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, with more than 1,300 entries submitted for this year's award.

Durham CrimeStoppers Launches Initiative to Get Ahead of Holiday Robberies
In an attempt to get ahead of the usual increase in crime during the holidays, Durham CrimeStoppers is offering a $500 robbery reward. The holiday initiative is in effect through December 31 and is geared toward identifying suspects involved in committing robberies within the City. The cash reward will be given for information leading to felony charges being filed in robbery cases committed during this time period. CrimeStoppers can be reached at 919-683-1200, and callers never have to identify themselves.
