New City Hall This Week Begins February 28

City Hall This Week will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m. on DTV8 (Time Warner Cable channel 8 with a cable box, digital converter or channel 97-5 with a QAM tuner) as well as on demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC.

Possible Property Tax Increase Proposed as Part of FY 2014-2015 Budget
City leaders are beginning the process of developing a spending plan for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. During a planning retreat on February 20, the City administration and elected leaders received financial projections for the coming year. One of the topics discussed was the possibility of a 1.29-cent increase in the City's tax rate on every $100 of assessed property value. Even with that increase, the budget gap going into the process for this year would still be about $4.3 million. A penny-for-parks added to the tax rate is also being discussed to go toward improving park and trail maintenance and buying property for future parks.

Southside Homes Ready for Pre-Sale
Homes being built as part of the first phase of the Southside revitalization project are now ready for pre-sale. Forty-eight homes are being built in Southside, with at least 25 being reserved for households with incomes in the $32,000-$60,000 range. Find out about the various floor plans and special financing available for moderate-income buyers.

American Tobacco Trail Pedestrian Bridge Now Open
The long-awaited American Tobacco Trail Bridge over I-40 is now open. The new 270-foot long pedestrian bridge is located just west of Fayetteville Road. The connection to the trail heading south is located in the parking lot near Southpoint Cinemas at the Streets at Southpoint.
