Durham Begins East Main Street Stormwater Drainage Repair March 12

DURHAM, N.C. - Beginning Wednesday, March 12, the City of Durham's Public Works Department will be performing repairs on the stormwater drainage system along East Main Street between Queen Street and Dillard Street.

The two-week project is necessary because the aging stormwater drainage system along this part of East Main Street is deteriorating and causing localized flooding in the street. As a result of this project, there will be minor disruptions to local traffic flow. Both lanes will remain open to traffic during construction and workers will direct traffic as needed in addition to work zone signage to notify motorists. Street parking between Queen Street and the entrance to St. Philips Episcopal Church will not be available during this project. Sections of sidewalk along this street will also be closed during construction and additional signage will be in place to notify pedestrians.

The estimated cost for the project is approximately $50,000 and will be paid for with funds from the Stormwater Capital Improvement Program (CIP). For additional information regarding this repair project, contact Project Manager Sujit Ekka with the Stormwater and GIS Services Division in the City's Public Works Department, at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30271 or by email at Sujit.Ekka at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:Sujit.Ekka at DurhamNC.gov>.
