Durham Extends Free Bulky Brush Curbside Collection Until March 20
Free Drop-Off at Waste Disposal & Recycling Center Also Extended

DURHAM, N.C. – To help city residents continue to clean up debris from late February's snow storm, the City of Durham is extending for an extra week its free bulky brush curbside collection and drop-off.

Since Monday, March 2, the City's Solid Waste Management Department has collected approximately 102 tons of bulky brush debris, which is double the normal amount. With more curbside debris waiting to be collected, the department plans to have crews work this Saturday to catch up, and is extending the service an extra week while also eliminating the need to contact Durham One Call if debris is larger than three cubic yards.

Free curbside pick-up for bulky brush debris will now end on Friday, March 20. Residents are asked to place their bulky brush neatly on their curb on their normal garbage collection day (no later than Thursday, March 19). Branches and limbs should be no more than six inches in diameter and four feet in length. After Friday, March 20, curbside bulky brush collection will revert back to being an on-call service with applicable fees.

"Our crews have noted that many residents have significant amounts of storm debris, so we're eliminating the need to call-in to arrange a special collection," said Director Donald Long with the City's Solid Waste Management Department. "We're also extending our free service for an extra week to help our residents get debris removed. Our goal is to get debris cleaned up as quickly and safely as possible, and we’re working very hard to help make it happen."

Residents may also bring their bulky brush debris to the City's Waste Disposal and Recycling Center (Transfer Station), located at 2115 E. Club Blvd., where fees have now been waived an extra week for non-commercial customers until noon on Saturday, March 21.

The City's yard waste customers will not have this free curbside collection count toward their two free annual collections of bulky brush debris. Any additional questions should be directed to Durham One Call at (919) 560-1200.
