Residents Sought for Short-Term Training for In-Demand Jobs
Industry-Recognized & State-Level Credentials Earned through NCWorks Grant
DURHAM, N.C. - Residents seeking credentials and training in five high-demand fields are encouraged to attend upcoming information sessions to learn more about how to get started in these new career paths.
The NCWorks Training for Careers program<http://www.durhamtech.edu/ncworks/> is hosting two information sessions this month for interested applicants seeking short-term training for industry-recognized or state-level credentials for the below in-demand jobs. This training program is a Durham NCWorks collaboration among the Durham Workforce Development Board<http://durhamnc.gov/ich/cb/oewd/Pages/Durham_Workforce_Development_Board.aspx>, the City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development<http://www.durhameconomicdevelopment.org/>, of which the NCWorks Career Centers are a part, and Durham Technical Community College<http://www.durhamtech.edu/>.
The program will pay for registration fees and certification test fees, books, and supplies for training program participants. Students will only need to pay $20 for the NC Career Readiness Certificate (NC CRC) assessments. After training is completed, the Durham NCWorks team then provides assistance with job search and networking.

Credentials Earned Upon Completion
BioWork Plus
BioWork, Aseptic Manufacture certificate, GMP & SOP certificate, OSHA 10 and NC BioWork Process Technician credential, and NC CRC
Clinical Support Technician
Health Unit Coordinator, Nurse Aide I, CPR, and NC CRC
Certified Production Technician
Safety, Quality Practices and Measurement, Manufacturing Processes, and Production and Maintenance Awareness, OSHA 10, and NC CRC
Customer Service/Call Center
Certificate in Customer Satisfaction, and NC CRC
START: Careers in Hotel and Lodging
Up to six industry-related credentials such as: Certified Guest Services Gold, ServSafe for Managers, ServSafe Alcohol, Responsible Alcohol Seller's Program (RASP), and NC CRC. Students will also have the option to choose an additional credential from American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI).
The upcoming information sessions are as follows:
Wednesday, July 15, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Durham Technical Community College, Northern Durham Center, Room 111-B, 2401 Snow Hill Rd.
Monday, July 20, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Durham Technical Community College, Corporate and Continuing Education Center, Building 6, Room 603, 1637 Lawson St.
The program is part of the Job Driven Initiative, an NCWorks signature effort to provide training for jobs such as certified production technicians, bio-manufacturing, and service industry support. The Jobs Driven Initiative is one of the goals in the Durham Workforce Development Board's 2015-2017 Strategic Plan<http://www.durhamworkforce.org/>. The Board, a statutory body that serves as the coordinating entity for workforce development in Durham, consists of the private-sector members of the Durham Workforce Development Board, the City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Durham County Government, the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions, Durham Technical Community College, Durham Public Schools, the Durham County Department of Health and Human Services Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and many important private not-for profit partners.

Established by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, the Durham Workforce Development Board (DWDB)<http://www.durhamnc.gov/departments/eed/dwdb_index.cfm> is a consortium agreement between the City and County of Durham. The City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development serves as the administrative entity and staff to the DWDB.
