Durham Mayor Pro Tempore Elected to National League of Cities Board of Directors

DURHAM, N.C. - City of Durham Mayor Pro Tempore Cora Cole-McFadden<http://durhamnc.gov/1401/Cora-Cole-McFadden> was elected to the National League of Cities (NLC)<http://www.nlc.org/> 2016 Board of Directors at the 2015 Congress of Cities & Exposition<http://www.nlccongressofcities.org/> held in Nashville, Tenn. earlier this month.

Cole-McFadden, who will serve a two-year term, will play a key role in guiding the nation's largest and most representative membership and advocacy organization for city officials. Over the next two years, Cole-McFadden will participate in six Board of Directors meetings at NLC convenings in Washington and across the nation.

"National League of Cities' Board of Directors provides the critical leadership that enables our organization to strategically address the challenges facing our nation's cities," said National League of Cities (NLC) CEO and Executive Director Clarence E. Anthony. "As we look toward the future, the Board will play a central role in helping NLC better serve our members and will provide guidance as we advocate for cities before Congress and the administration."

In her role on the Board, Cole-McFadden will help to guide NLC's strategic direction and set the organization's advocacy priorities and operational goals. Board members are selected by a 15-member nominating committee, and are confirmed by a vote by NLC's membership. A complete list of NLC's 2016 Board of Directors may be found here<http://www.nlc.org/media-center/news-search/national-league-of-cities-announces-2016-leadership-and-board-of-directors>. Cole-McFadden is the only official from North Carolina elected to serve on the 2016 NLC Board of Directors.

The National League of Cities (NLC)<http://www.nlc.org/about-nlc> is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
