Durham Leaders Take Action to Reduce Violent Crime
Durham leaders say they're fed up with the recent increase in violent crime and are making it their mission to put a stop to it. Mayor William V. Volunteers Needed for Durham Homeless Point-In-Time Count
Volunteers and donations are needed for the Durham Homeless Point-In-Time Count<http://www.durhamopeningdoors.org/get-involved/volunteer-registration-2/>, which takes place on Wednesday, January 27. City Using Federal Funds to Help Provide Meals to Homeless
The City will use federal emergency shelter and housing funds<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160104/10827_MEMO_CONTRACT_FOR_COMMUNITY_CA_381569_672846.PDF> to help Urban Ministries of Durham<http://www.umdurham.org/> provide meals through its Community Café. Urban Ministries projects it will need to provide 96,000 meals this year to accommodate 1,000 shelter residents.


Herndon Park Baseball Fields Get Sports Lighting
More lit baseball fields will soon be available in Durham. The City will spend $216,000 to install sports lighting<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160104/10832_MEMO-(CORRECTED)_HERNDON_BASEBALL_LIGHTS_381644_671977.PDF> at two baseball fields at Herndon Park. The park, located on Scott King Road, includes soccer fields, a multi-purpose field, and baseball fields.
