Durham Announces Police Chief Candidate Finalists
City Manager Tom Bonfield has announced the two finalists for the police chief position<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/9800> of the Durham Police Department. The finalists are Deputy Chief Cerelyn Davis, who serves over the Strategy and Special Projects Division of the City of Atlanta Police Department, and Major Michael Smathers, who oversees the Field Services Group of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Residents will have an opportunity to meet Davis and Smathers when they participate in a moderated community forum on Wednesday, April 6, and the City is asking residents to submit questions now for the forum.

Equal Business Opportunity Program Now Revised
An ordinance to revise the City's Equal Business Opportunity Program<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160321/10988_MEMO_EBOP_ORDINANCE_384847_681258.PDF> is now in place. The revision was the first step in implementing recommendations to address disparities in City contracting, which were identified by a study that found minorities and women are significantly underutilized as prime and subcontractors across all procurement categories.

Small-Scale Residential Storm Water Control Measures to be Installed
Small-scale residential storm water control measures<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160321/10981_MEMO_RESIDENTIAL_STORMWATER_CO_384662_681974.PDF> will soon be installed throughout Durham. The measures are part of an effort to reduce the amount of nitrogen and phosphorous being discharged into Falls Lake. The project will build off the success of previous pilot projects and will identify residential locations to install rain gardens, cisterns, and downspout disconnections.

Price of Downtown Loop Waterline Replacement Increases
The cost of the downtown loop waterline replacement project<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160321/10989_MEMO_DOWNTOWN_LOOP_WATERLINE_R_384710_681129.PDF> is going up. Another $237,000 will be added to the overall project budget to cover extra work associated with unforeseen field conditions, additional inspections due to added crews and 24-hour work days, and to cover additional work needed in reaching out to stakeholders.


Edgemont Park Set to Double in Size
Edgemont Park will soon permanently double its size. The City is planning to buy four properties<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160321/10991_MEMO_PROPOSED_ACQUISITION_OF_4_384731_681111.PDF> that will be part of a significant improvement project at the park, which is located on South Elm Street. The purchase will provide more open space and a larger playground with new equipment.
