First Quarter Crime Report Offers Mixed News
The Durham Police Department's First Quarter Crime Report<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/10358> is offering a mixed picture of crime in Durham. Overall Part One Index Crime, which is a total of property and violent crime, dropped 12 percent during the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period last year. Violent crime was up by 7 percent and property crime was down by 15 percent.

Public Safety Project Moves Forward
Plans to build the new Fire Station #17<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cm20160502/11064_MEMO_FIRE_STATION_17_386999_691466.PDF> at the intersection of Leesville Road and Doc Nichols Road are moving forward. The new fire station will serve the Del Webb Carolina Arbors community as well as the rapidly growing surrounding area.

Water and Sewer Rates Increase
There will be modest increases in water and sewer service charges<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cm20160502/11048_MEMO_FY_16-17_WATER_AND_SEWER__386634_688468.PDF> to meet increasing expenses associated with Durham's water treatment and delivery system. The City Council approved a 2.6 percent overall increase in water and sewer bills, and new rates go into effect July 1.

Durham Workforce Development Board Releases Annual Report
Durham's efforts to coordinate services to help connect the city's workforce with good, sustainable jobs seem to be paying off. That was one of the messages coming out of the Durham Workforce Development Board's recent annual report<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cws20160502/11062_EXHIBIT_DWDB_ANNUAL_REPORT_2016_P_387737_690332.pdf> to the City Council.
