Durham's Proposed $403.7 Million Budget Includes Tax Rate Increase to Meet City's Changing Needs
Durham's proposed $403.7 million budget<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/10566> includes a tax rate increase to meet the City's growth and changing needs. City Manager Tom Bonfield proposed the increase during the City Council's May 16 meeting. The new proposed tax rate would be 56.07 cents per $100 of assessed value.

Development of More Rental Housing in Southside Moves Forward
The development of more rental housing as part of Southside's revitalization is moving forward. The City Council approved spending $3.3 million in HOME Investment Partnership funds<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160516/11091_MEMO_SOUTHSIDE_PHASE_II_LOAN_A_387986_692802.PDF> for construction activities for Phase Two of the Lofts at Southside, which will include 85 multi-family rental units with 58 of the units affordable to households earning 60 percent or below of the area median income.

City Council Work Session Days and Time to Remain the Same Next Year
The meeting days and time for the City Council's work sessions will remain the same next year. The Council currently holds its work sessions at 1 p.m. on the Thursday of the same week of each regular evening business meeting<http://durhamnc.gov/1323/City-Council>. Members approved leaving that day and time the same for the coming year. City Employees Recognized at Annual Luncheon
City employees who reached significant service milestones in 2015 are being honored. The annual employee recognition luncheon was held May 17 to recognize approximately 280 retirees and current employees for their service and commitment to Durham.
