Durham Hosts Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update Public Meeting

DURHAM, N.C. - Residents interested in participating in the City of Durham's bicycle and pedestrian plan update<http://www.durhambikewalkplan.com/> should mark their calendars to attend a public meeting next month.

The drop-in style meeting, set for Monday, June 6 from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. at the Durham County Main Library, located at 300 N. Roxboro St., will allow residents to provide feedback on current bicycle and pedestrian conditions and meet the team of City staff and consultants working on the plan update.

Attendees will also be able to map problematic areas, take a survey, and work with designers to sketch possible solutions to problematic intersections and corridors. Interactive presentations about the update process will be given at the top of each hour.

This public meeting is part of the City's current update and consolidation of past plans in order to best prioritize bicycle and pedestrian improvements and provide a multi-modal transportation system. Residents unable to attend this public meeting are encouraged to visit www.DurhamBikeWalkPlan.com<http://www.DurhamBikeWalkPlan.com> to learn more about the plan process, take the survey, and identify bicycle and/or pedestrian issues using an online map.

This plan update and consolidation is focused on implementation, and will include identifying major and minor gaps for pedestrians and bicyclists, prioritizing projects, and recommending the most appropriate type of facility and funding strategy. The process is expected to be completed by March 2017.

For more information about this plan update, contact Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Planner Bryan Poole with the City's Transportation Department at (919)-560-4366, extension 36423 or by email<mailto:%20bryan.poole at durhamnc.gov>.
