Durham Hosts Public Meeting for West Club Boulevard Restriping Plan
Drop-In Style Meeting to Share Proposed Plan and Collect Resident Feedback

DURHAM, N.C. - Those who regularly use West Club Boulevard should mark their calendars now for a public meeting next week about a proposed restriping plan<http://durhamnc.gov/2929/West-Club-Boulevard-Restriping-Project>.

The City of Durham Transportation Department<http://durhamnc.gov/1002/Transportation> is holding a public meeting on Wednesday, August 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Mosaic Church Fellowship Hall, located at 2031 W. Club Blvd., to discuss a proposed restriping plan for West Club Boulevard. If approved, the project will add bicycle lanes on West Club Boulevard between Hillandale Road and Broad Street, improve pedestrian visibility at intersections, and alternate the availability of parking from one side of the street to the other at each block. The plan, developed in coordination with members of the Watts-Hillandale Neighborhood Association and other stakeholders, may also decrease speeds along West Club Boulevard since the width of the motor vehicle travel lanes will be reduced with the restriping.

According to Project Coordinator Bryan Poole<mailto:Bryan.Poole at durhamnc.gov> with the City's Transportation Department, if the project proceeds, restriping work will be done within the existing street and will only affect the availability of parking for adjacent properties. Signage designating no parking will also be added. No changes will be made to the existing curbs or right-of-way, and the roadway will not be resurfaced prior to restriping.

The drop-in style meeting next week will allow residents to see the plans and provide feedback and suggestions. A decision on whether to proceed with the restriping project will be by made by City staff after public comments are received at next week's meeting. Residents who are unable to attend this public meeting may also send their comments, along with their name and address, by Monday, August 22 to Poole at (919) 560-4366, extension 36423 or by email<mailto:%20bryan.poole at durhamnc.gov>. Additional project information and the proposed pavement marking plan are also available on the project Web page<http://durhamnc.gov/2929/West-Club-Boulevard-Restriping-Project>.
