Durham BOCC Approves Bond Order for 2016 Bond Referendum

Durham, NC - August 9, 2016 ? During the August 8, 2016, Durham Board of County Commissioners Regular Session, the board unanimously voted in support of four bonds, totaling $170 million, for residents to vote on this coming election period in November 2016. Residents are encouraged to become very familiar with the bond referendum details as the upcoming ballot will be lengthy and yield results affecting many areas of local, state and federal government.

The four referendums will be listed separately on the ballot for the following issuances:


School Bonds
Durham Public Schools

$90,870,000 for building additional schools buildings and school plant facilities, remodeling, enlarging and reconstructing existing school buildings and other plant facilities and acquiring necessary land, furnishings and equipment.


Community College Bonds
Durham Technical Community College

$20,195,000 for expanding and improving facilities.


Library Facilities Bonds
Durham Public Library

$44,725,000 for enlarging and improving library facilities including the expansion and improvement of the existing Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro Street.


Museum Bonds
NC Museum of Life and Science

$14,210,000 for construction of a parking deck and improvement of certain exhibits and other visitor facilities.





More details about the pending bond referendum will be spelled out on the County's 2016 Bond Referendum Website scheduled to go live this month at dconc.gov. Each household with a registered voter in Durham will receive tangible information prior to the start of the early voting period as well.
