City Council Gains Better Idea of Look & Feel of New Police Headquarters & 911 Center
The City Council now has a better idea of how the new Police Headquarters & 911 Center<http://durhamnc.gov/749/Durham-Police-Headquarters-Complex> will look. Council members received an update on the project<http://cityordinances.durhamnc.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/WS-Published%20Attachment%20-%2011370%20-%20PRESENTATION%20-%20PRESENTATION%20FOR%20POLICE%20HQ%20CO.pdf?meetingId=138&documentType=Agenda&itemId=1543&publishId=6608&isSection=false> during its September 8 work session. Senior Design Architect Jeffery Bottomley with O'Brien Atkins Associates explains why the building is expected to be much more conducive to public engagement.

City Uses Tactical Homeland Operational Response Mobile Command Center Through September
While the normal backup Durham Emergency Communications Center<http://durhamnc.gov/435/Emergency-Communications> is being remodeled, the Tactical Homeland Operational Response mobile command center<https://www.west.com/safety-services/public-safety/operational-continuity/thor-shield/> has been set up on Camden Avenue. The 80-foot long, two-story unit is equipped with state-of-the-art communications equipment and technology. The unit is expected to be used until late September.

Durham Fire Department Accepting Applications
The Durham Fire Department is currently accepting applications<http://durhamnc.gov/622/Becoming-a-Durham-Firefighter> for entry-level fire recruits and certified firefighters. The department usually only has one hiring process each year and will often hire applicants from that process throughout the year. Applications are being accepted through September 23.

Registration Open for Durham's 2016 Fair Housing Forum
Registration is now open for Durham's 2016 Fair Housing Forum. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The forum is designed to educate housing providers, builders, architects, healthcare providers and disability advocates on federal and local fair housing laws as they pertain to people with disabilities. The forum is free and open to the public, but registration<http://fairhousinginclusionworks.eventbrite.com/> is required.
