Durham Releases Final Draft of Bike+Walk Implementation Plan
Comments Sought Through April 28; Public Meeting April 18

DURHAM, N.C. - A final draft of the Durham Bike+Walk Plan<http://www.durhambikewalkplan.com/> is now available and residents are encouraged to provide comments from now until April 28.

The final draft, a result of multiple rounds of public engagement, prioritization, and stakeholder input, contains information on the plan development and prioritization process, the top priorities for the City and recommended improvements, and topics on best practices from other communities.

Since May 2016, the City of Durham Transportation Department<http://durhamnc.gov/1002/Transportation> has been developing an implementation-focused plan that combines the previous bicycle and pedestrian plans into a single document. Working with consultants from Stantec<http://www.stantec.com/>, Toole Design Group<http://www.tooledesign.com/>, and Mobycon<http://www.mobycon.com/>, the plan is helping identify where bicycle and pedestrian facilities are most critically needed to improve safety, connectivity, and quality of life.

The final draft can now be found on the City's project website<http://durhamnc.gov/2853/Current-Planning-Activities> and the Durham Bike+Walk project website<http://www.durhambikewalkplan.com/>. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on the plan by email<mailto:%20bryan.poole at durhamnc.gov> or through the project website by April 28.

Comments can also be shared during a drop-in style public meeting set for Tuesday, April 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Temple Building, located at 302 W. Main St.

For more information, contact Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Planner Bryan Poole with the City's Transportation Department at (919)-560-4366, extension 36423 or by email<mailto:%20bryan.poole at durhamnc.gov>.
