Durham Wins National Recognition for Best Performance Audit

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham Audit Services Department<http://durhamnc.gov/150/Audit-Services> has been nationally recognized for having one of the best performance audits of 2016.

The 2016 Knighton Award<https://algaonline.org/index.aspx?NID=154>, presented by the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA)<https://algaonline.org/>, was awarded to the department in the small shop category for its Public Works Department Street Maintenance Performance Audit<https://algaonline.org/DocumentCenter/View/5374>, which was conducted last year to determine if the City's Street Maintenance staff are completing street maintenance activities per their service delivery standards, and to evaluate whether City policy choices on street maintenance are consistent with the strategy adopted by the City Council.

This national award recognizes the best performance audit reports of the preceding year. The City's report was judged on several key elements, such as the potential for significant impact, persuasiveness of the conclusions, focus on improving government efficiency and effectiveness, and its clarity, conciseness and innovation.

Each year, local government audit organizations from around the U.S. and Canada submit their best performance audit reports for judging. The purpose of the competition is to improve government services by encouraging and increasing levels of excellence among local government auditors.

The ALGA is a national audit association founded in 1985 to support and improve local government auditing through advocacy, collaboration, education and training while upholding and promoting the highest stands of professional ethics.

For more information on this award or the City's Audit Services Department, contact Director Germaine Brewington at (919) 560-4213, extension 14244 or by email<mailto:Germaine.Brewington at durhamnc.gov>.
