County to Recognize Labor Day Holiday

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 3, 2018. All Durham County Offices will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, September 4th.

Board of County Commissioners Work Session:
The Durham Board of County Commissioners has rescheduled their upcoming Work Session due to the Labor Day holiday. The BOCC normally holds work sessions on Mondays, however, the public meeting will be held at 9 am. on Tuesday, September 4th, instead of Monday, September 3rd, in the Commissioners Chambers located at 200 E. Main Street.

County Convenience Sites:
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on September 3rd in recognition of the Labor Day Holiday. Durham County residents with a beige 2018-19 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on September 4th beginning at 7a.m.

The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers on Schedule B, normally serviced the week of September 3rd, will remain the same. Residents scheduled for collection on September 3rd will have their recyclables collected on September 3rd.  All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup to avoid a missed collection.

Durham County Library:
All locations of the Durham County Library will be closed on Sunday, September 2nd and Monday, September 3rd, for the Labor Day holiday. The library will reopen on Tuesday, September 4th with regular hours.

Durham County Department of Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Labor Day holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services:

The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices on September 3rd. While offices are closed, residents should note that an on-call social worker is available by calling 911 to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On September 4th, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation, 7:30 am until 5:30 pm.
