The Talk by Sonny Kelly

The Talk is a one-man performance that draws on the voices of ancestors, elders, youths, and intellectuals to engage in the difficult conversations that we must have with our children as we prepare them to survive and thrive in today’s America. Written and performed by UNC Communication PhD student Sonny Kelly, The Talk was born of a painful conversation Sonny had with his seven-year-old son after hearing news reports about multiple killings and beatings of black men by civil authorities. 



The Talk will be performed 12 times at Durham Fruit and Produce Co., 305 South Dillard and four times at the Historic Playmakers Theatre, 122 E. Cameron, Chapel Hill beginning Thursday, Jan. 24, and concluding Sunday, Feb. 17. Talkback discussions with Kelly and panelists after each performance. Prices range from $5 to $20: discounts for groups, active-duty military, veterans, seniors, people under 35, and—in Chapel Hill—UNC students, faculty, and staff.
