Durham Hosts Second Downtown Wayfinding Project Public Meeting
Three Signage Design Options to be Presented for Community Feedback

DURHAM, N.C. - Residents and visitors interested in how the City of Durham plans to develop a new downtown wayfinding system for pedestrians and motorists should attend a public meeting<https://durhamnc.gov/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/4245> next week to give their input on the new signage design options for this project.

The City’s Transportation Department is in the process of developing a new wayfinding system to replace the existing outdated program. The wayfinding signage will help people to more easily find their way around downtown, find public parking, and encourage visitors to discover attractions and other community assets.

To help with this effort, the department hired MERJE<https://merjedesign.com/>, a nationally recognized firm with specific expertise in community wayfinding, to design Durham’s new system. The new wayfinding system project began in late 2018 with an open house, stakeholder meetings, and a survey of residents and visitors. The MERJE design team is now ready to present the results of their assessment along with three options for the design of the new wayfinding signage.

Residents and visitors are invited to attend a public meeting on Wednesday, February 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Durham Armory<https://www.dprplaymore.org/facilities/facility/details/durhamarmory-101>, located at 212 Foster St., to review the proposed designs and give their feedback. Parking is available in on-street metered spaces<http://parkdurham.org/153/On-Street-Metered-Parking> and in nearby parking garages<http://parkdurham.org/161/Parking-Garages>, and this location can also be accessed on GoDurham<https://godurhamtransit.org/> Route 4. For residents who are unable to attend the meeting, materials and a survey will also be posted on the department’s project webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3828/Downtown-Durham-Wayfinding-Project> after the meeting to collect their input.

For additional information about this project watch the November 8, 2018 Bull City Today episode<https://youtu.be/u6xNwhNaOAk> or contact Transportation Engineer Peter Nicholas at (919) 560-4366, ext. 36436 or email Peter.Nicholas at DurhamnNC.gov<mailto:Peter.Nicholas at DurhamnNC.gov>. Persons who require assistance to attend this meeting should call (919) 560‐4197 or email ADA at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:ADA at DurhamNC.gov> no later than 48 hours before the event.
