County to Recognize Labor Day Holiday 2019


Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 2, 2019. All Durham County Offices will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, September 3.

Board of County Commissioners Work Session
The Durham Board of County Commissioners has rescheduled their upcoming Work Session due to the Labor Day holiday. The BOCC normally holds work sessions on Mondays, however, the public meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, instead of Monday, September 2, in the Commissioners Chambers located on the second floor of the Administration Building I, 200 E. Main Street.

Durham County General Services
County Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on September 2nd in recognition of the Labor Day Holiday. Durham County residents with a current solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on September 3rd beginning at 7 a.m.

A reminder, beginning September 1st, all users of Durham County Convenience Sites must display the BLUE 2019-2020 Solid Waste Decal that was included with your property tax bill. To purchase a decal, contact the Durham County Tax Administration Office at (919) 560-0300.

Roadside Recycling Collection
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers on Schedule B, normally serviced the week of September 2nd, will remain the same. Residents scheduled for collection on September 2nd will have their recyclables collected as normal. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup to avoid a missed collection.

Durham County Library
All locations of the Durham County Library will be closed on Sunday, September 1st and Monday, September 2nd, for the Labor Day holiday. The library will reopen on Tuesday, September 3rd with regular hours.

Durham County Department of Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Labor Day holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services

The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices on September 2nd. While offices are closed, residents should contact an on-call social worker by calling 911 to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On September 3rd, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation.

Durham County Sheriff's Office

The Durham County Sheriff's Office patrol division is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on September 2nd and will reopen on September 3rd.
