Ride GoDurham Fare Free on Election Day
Fare-Free Days Also Announced for all Future Elections in Durham

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham is making it even easier to get to the polls on Election Day, not only for this year, but for all future elections.

GoDurham<https://godurhamtransit.org> buses will be fare free all day on Tuesday, November 5 in addition to being fare free for all future municipal and general election days thanks to a City Council-approved ordinance<https://cityordinances.durhamnc.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/Final-Published%20Attachment%20-%2013455%20-%20MEMO%20-%2011.5.2019%20FREE-FARE%20DAY%20MEMO%20-%201.pdf?meetingId=336&documentType=Agenda&itemId=12980&publishId=58112&isSection=false> from their October 7 regular business meeting.

According to Derek Bowens, director of the Durham County Board of Elections, free bus rides should help voter turnout. "Free bus rides all day on Election Day will most definitely encourage voter turnout since for many Durham residents public transit is a practical way to get to the polls," Bowens said. "By removing the cost barrier, we hope more registered voters will cast a ballot on November 5 as well as in all future election years."

Polling places will be open on Tuesday, November 5 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Visit the GoDurham website<https://godurhamtransit.org> to plan a route.
