City of Durham to Observe Memorial Day

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham will observe the upcoming Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 25, meaning many employees who are now teleworking due to COVID-19 will be unavailable on that day.

Police, fire, and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 911. Non-emergency problems or concerns may be directed to (919) 560-4600.

The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will be closed on May 25. The revised curbside collection schedule for garbage and recycling reflects a one-day delay for all residential customers as follows:

*         Monday customers will receive collections on Tuesday, May 26.

*         Tuesday customers will receive collections on Wednesday, May 27.

*         Wednesday customers will receive collections on Thursday, May 28.

*         Thursday customers will receive collections on Friday, May 29.

Curbside yard waste collections remain suspended at this time due to COVID-19. Requests for curbside bulky services may be requesting by contacting Durham One Call by using the free smartphone app available in Apple<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/durham-one-call/id1201890986?mt=8> and Google Play<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.accela.durham_nc&hl=en> stores, by submitting an online service request<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call>, or by calling (919) 560-1200.

The Waste Disposal & Recycling Center<https://durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-Facilities> will also be closed on May 25. For more information about items accepted for curbside collections as well as how to sign up for collection day alerts and reminders for all holiday service changes, visit the department's webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3025/Find-Collection-Day-Holiday-Schedule-Cal>.

Durham One Call<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> will also be closed on May 25. Residents may submit a service request using the free Durham One Call smartphone app available in the Apple<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/durham-one-call/id1201890986?mt=8> and Google Play<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.accela.durham_nc&hl=en> stores, submit an online service request<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call>, or leave a message at (919) 560-1200. Durham One Call will forward all requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day.

Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the department's after-hours emergency phone number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.

City staff working in non-public safety departments will resume teleworking on Tuesday, May 26. As a reminder, all City facilities, playgrounds, etc. remain closed to the public due to COVID-19.
