 DUKE-DURHAM NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERSHIP UPDATE

August 24, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

This is a notice from Duke's Office of Durham and Community Affairs to inform you of steps to help keep the community safe from COVID-19.

Duke has tested every incoming student living on and off campus and will now begin surveillance testing. Duke has created a public Duke COVID Testing Tracker that will be updated every Monday (https://t.e2ma.net/click/gd5noe/cmt9u4r/see97v).

All Duke students, faculty and staff are required to complete the Duke Compact (https://t.e2ma.net/click/gd5noe/cmt9u4r/86e97v) committing to COVID safety protocols. You can find more details about the Compact and Duke’s response to COVID-19 at returnto.duke.edu (https://t.e2ma.net/click/gd5noe/cmt9u4r/ozf97v).

If you see COVID safety violations by students, faculty or staff on- or off- campus, please report it.

Duke “Speak Up” phone line

1-800-826-8109, option 3

If you have any concerns or observe students whose behavior does not adhere to these policies, please call the Duke “Speak Up” reporting line or email conduct at duke.edu (mailto:conduct at duke.edu),  which goes to the Office of Student Conduct in the department of Student Affairs. Submissions by phone and email will be sent to the appropriate department for follow up. Students whose behavior is found to be in violation of Duke or state/local standards will go through the Duke student conduct process.

The Speak Up line is intended to collect conduct issues regarding COVID-19 safety on- and off-campus so they may be investigated, but it is not intended as an immediate dispatch hotline. It is still important to use this reporting line as it allows the university to identify violation hotspots which result in targeted meetings and intervention strategies.

When you need an immediate response

For an immediate response to conduct issues off-campus, the Durham Neighborhoods United Protocol for Dealing with Off-Campus Student Housing (https://t.e2ma.net/click/gd5noe/cmt9u4r/4rg97v) should be followed. Durham Neighborhoods United (DNU) has been working to address issues with disruptive college parties by partnering with the Durham Police Department. Our office has been a partner at the table for these conversations and will continue being present and responsive to this work.

Thank you for your understanding and patience so that we can be better partners and neighbors.

Sincerely,

Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs
