City of Durham to Observe Labor Day Holiday



DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham will observe the upcoming Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7<https://durhamnc.gov/calendar.aspx?EID=4820>, meaning many employees who are now teleworking due to COVID-19 will be unavailable on that day. Police, fire, and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 911. Non-emergency concerns may be directed to (919) 560-4600.


o   The regularly scheduled virtual City Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. Since most activities inside City Hall remain closed to the public due to COVID-19, this meeting will be live streamed on the City's website<https://durham.granicus.com/player/camera/2?publish_id=6>, the City's YouTube<https://www.youtube.com/cityofdurhamnc> Channel, the City's Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/cityofdurhamnc> and Twitter<https://www.twitter.com/cityofdurhamnc> pages, Durham Television Network<https://durhamnc.gov/1104/Durham-Television-Network> (Spectrum Channel 8, Google Fiber Channel 8, Frontier Channel 70, and AT&T Uverse Channel 99), and on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon via the free Boxcast app. For more information on how to watch and comment during virtual City Council meetings and work sessions, visit the City's website<https://durhamnc.gov/1345/Watch-or-Comment-at-Meetings-Work-Sessio>.



The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will be closed on September 7. Collection for curbside garbage and recycling will be delayed by one business day for the entire week. Friday collection for curbside yard waste Tuesday/Wednesday customers will also be delayed to Saturday, September 12. The Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will also be closed on September 7, but will operate under normal schedules on Saturday, September 5. Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/>'s (DPR) Administrative Office will be closed on September 7. It will reopen on September 8 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for pre-scheduled appointments. However, all other DPR facilities and playgrounds remain closed at this time due to COVID-19. For information about DPR programs, activities and events or to schedule an appointment, call (919) 560-4355 during office hours. City lakes are open with limited operations to meet state and local social distancing requirements. A lottery system is in place to access permits at each lake. Durham One Call will forward all requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day.



Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the department's after-hours emergency phone number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
