DCHC MPO Seeks Feedback on Briggs Avenue Extension Project Removal from Long-Range Transportation Plan
DURHAM, N.C. - If you have thoughts on the removal of the proposed Briggs Avenue Extension from our area's future roadway projects, now's the time to share your feedback before the December 10 deadline.
The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO), a regional transportation planning agency, is amending their long-range Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP)<http://www.dchcmpo.org/programs/ctp/default.asp#tabs4> to remove the proposed Briggs Avenue Extension from the CTP list and map of future roadway projects.
When originally conceived, the project was to connect existing and future industrial areas. According to DCHC MPO Principal Planner Andrew Henry, the Briggs Avenue Extension no longer appears to be feasible from a cost perspective, and the connectivity benefits of the roadway have significantly weakened given recent development in the adjacent area.
Residents and other stakeholders can now review more detailed information and a map on this proposed project on the DCHC MPO webpage<http://www.dchcmpo.org/programs/ctp/default.asp#tabs4>, and then provide their comments directly by email<mailto:andrew.henry at durhamnc.gov> no later than Thursday, December 10, 2020. Comments received will be provided to the DCHC MPO Board for consideration during their December virtual board meeting.
Residents and stakeholders may also directly address the DCHC MPO Board on the removal of this project on Wednesday, December 9, beginning at 9 a.m. during their virtual board meeting<http://www.dchcmpo.org/cals/default.asp?ViewBy=7&CalDate=12/9/2020&EventDateID=73183>. The December 9 virtual meeting will also be live streamed on the DCHC MPO's Facebook page<https://www.facebook.com/MPOforDCHC>.
For more information about the proposed removal of the Briggs Avenue Extension project as well as to request to address the DCHC MPO Board directly during their December 9 meeting, contact Henry by email<mailto:andrew.henry at durhamnc.gov> or at (919) 560-4366, ext. 36419.
