Parkwood Convenience Site to Begin Opening on Second Saturday of Every Month

Durham, N.C. - In response to public feedback, Durham County Government's General Services Department has updated service hours at the Parkwood Convenience Site, located at 5928 Highway 55. Effective, Saturday, December 12, 2020, the site will be open the second Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

"We reduced hours at our Parkwood Site to ensure coverage of all convenience sites in Durham County after the hours and staffing at all sites were modified due to COVID-19," said Chrissie Koroivui, Durham County Solid Waste Program Manager.  "After receiving requests to add Saturday hours at the Parkwood Site, we have moved toward opening the site once a month without eliminating days on the current schedule and without incurring any additional costs."

While a survey of Parkwood customers revealed positive response to the maintenance of current site hours, DCo General Services foresee a benefit to updating the opening schedule.

The following outlines the updated hours of operation for the Parkwood site:

  *   Monday, Wednesday and Friday
7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

  *   Tuesday and Thursday
10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

  *   2nd Saturday of every month
7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

  *   All other Saturdays, all Sundays and Holidays
Closed

Hours of operation for the County's remaining convenience sites will not change.

While the COVID-19 situation is fluid, Durham County General Services must take the necessary precautions to limit the spread of the virus. Citizens accessing County Convenience Sites should follow the guidelines of social distancing by wearing a face covering and remaining 6 feet between themselves and other customers disposing of waste.

Customers using County Convenience Sites are reminded that a current 2020-2021 Solid Waste Decal must be displayed to use sites. The Saturday hours at the Bahama, Redwood, and Rougemont Sites are 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
