Durham, N.C. – Thanks to Zoom, the Durham County Public Information Office continues to bring residents who are also social distancing important information on our programs and services with the “In Touch with Durham County” show for January 2021<https://youtu.be/ALXWw7ZSVEI>.

In this month’s episode, host Deborah Craig-Ray, General Manager of Strategic Planning and Innovation, welcomes two well-known Durham County Government public servants in Board of County Commissioners Chair Brenda Howerton and Durham County Department of Public Health Director Rod Jenkins.

As the longest tenured Board member following the retirement of Ellen Reckhow in 2020, Howerton joins the show after she was voted the Chair in December. The former President of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners discusses the honor of leading the historic first all-female BOCC in Durham County and the unique challenges ahead for the Board.

In segment two, Jenkins comes on to our show once again to talk about the County's on-going response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the County, state and nation are currently grappling with a dramatic surge in cases, Jenkins voices optimism as Durham County received the first batches of the COVID-19 vaccine and has begun the process of vaccinating our community.
