County to Recognize Memorial Day 2021
Most offices will close on Monday, May 31

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in recognition of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 31, 2021. All County offices will re-open with their normal hours of operation on Tuesday, June 1. Residents should note that some County offices continue to operate with limited on-site staff due to COVID-19 guidelines and that some services require appointments.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Centers
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on May 31. Durham County residents with a current 2020-2021 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling and yard waste at the County's Convenience sites on June 1. The Bahama, Rougemont and Redwood sites open at 7 a.m. and the Parkwood site opens at 10:30 a.m.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced the week of May 31 will maintain the same schedule. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection.

Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the new "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library regional and branch locations will close on May 31. The Regional and Branch locations will reopen on Tuesday, June 1 for walk-in hold pickup and one-hour visits at 2 p.m.

A reminder that the Durham County Main Library in downtown Durham remains closed to the public but is open for Library Take Out! by appointment only.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) will follow the Durham County Government Memorial Day holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Public Health clinics, including the walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic, will re-open on June 1. A reminder that all people age 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Durham County Social Services
The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government Memorial Day schedule. Residents are encouraged to call (919) 560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation on June 1.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County's Sheriff Office's patrol division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on May 31 and will re-open on June 1.

County to Honor Fallen Heroes with Virtual Ceremony
Residents planning to observe Memorial Day 2021 are invited to join Durham County Veteran Services staff as they commemorate the national day of mourning with a virtual ceremony in the morning on May 31.

The remembrance honoring America's military service members who died while serving their country will be available for viewing on the Durham Television Network (DTN), beginning at 8 a.m., as well as the County's Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/durhamcountygov>, Twitter<http://www.twitter.com/durhamcounty>, Nextdoor<https://nextdoor.com/agency-detail/nc/durham-county/durham-county-government/> and YouTube<http://www.youtube.com/dcowebmaster> pages at 11 a.m. This change from the normal in-person event and live ceremony is due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines intended to keep citizens and staff safe.

Veteran Services invites community members to visit and place a flag at the War Memorials in front of the Administration Building I, located at 200 E. Main St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 31.
