City of Durham to Observe Independence Day



DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham will observe the upcoming Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 5.



Most City offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City operations, will be closed to the public and many employees who continue to telework due to COVID-19 will be unavailable. Police, fire, and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 911. Non-emergency concerns may be directed to (919) 560-4600.

The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will be closed on July 5. All curbside collections for garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky items will be delayed by one business day. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-Facilities> will also be closed on July 5. Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/> (DPR) will close its administrative office and all facilities on July 5. City Lakes will be open under their normal schedules from Friday, July 2 through Monday, July 5. The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will be closed on July 5. On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, City-owned parking garages, and City-owned surface parking lots.



Durham One Call<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> will also be closed on July 5. Residents may submit a service request using the free Durham One Call smartphone app available in the Apple<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/durham-one-call/id1201890986?mt=8> and Google Play<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.accela.durham_nc&hl=en> stores, complete and submit an online service request<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call>, or leave a message at (919) 560-1200. Durham One Call will forward all requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day.



Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the department's after-hours emergency phone number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
