Most Durham County Government Offices to Close for Thanksgiving Holiday

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on both Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26, 2021. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Monday, November 29.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience sites on Thursday, November 25 and Saturday, November 27. Durham County residents with a current 2021-22 solid waste decal can dispose of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's Convenience Sites on Friday, November 26. The sites will return to their regular schedules<https://www.dconc.gov/county-departments/departments-f-z/general-services/solid-waste-recycling-and-litter-control/durham-county-convenience-sites> on Monday, November 29.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced on Thursday, November 25 will have their collection on Saturday, November 27. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the new "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26 and will reopen on Monday, November 29.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26. Locations will return to normal operating hours on Saturday, November 27.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Thanksgiving holiday closing schedule.

Durham County Social Services
On November 25 and 26, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Thanksgiving holiday. Residents are encouraged to call (919) 560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation on Monday, November 29.
