City of Durham to Observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day



DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham will observe the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday<https://durhamnc.gov/calendar.aspx?EID=6863> on Monday, January 17.  Most City offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City operations, will be closed to the public.


The City Council regular business meeting<https://durhamnc.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=5933> is re-scheduled for Tuesday, January 18 beginning at 7 p.m. This virtual meeting will be livestreamed on City's website<https://durham.granicus.com/player/camera/2?publish_id=6>, on the City's YouTube<https://www.youtube.com/CityofDurhamNC>, Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/CityofDurhamNC>, and Twitter<https://twitter.com/CityofDurhamNC> pages, and on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV through the free Boxcast app. This virtual meeting will also be televised live on Durham Television Network<https://durhamnc.gov/1104/Durham-Television-Network> (Spectrum channel 8, Frontier channel 70, and AT&T U-verse channel 99). The Solid Waste Management Department will be closed on Monday, January 17. Curbside garbage, recycling, and yard waste collections will have a one-day delay with Friday yard waste customers receiving their curbside collections on Monday, January 24. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will also be closed on Monday, January 17. The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will be closed on Monday, January 17. On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free for on-street parking spaces, in City-owned parking garages, and in City-owned surface parking lots.



Durham One Call will be closed on Monday, January 17. Residents may submit a service request using the free Durham One Call smartphone app available in the Apple<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/durham-one-call/id1201890986?mt=8> and Google Play<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.accela.durham_nc&hl=en> stores, submit an online service request<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call>, or leave a message at (919) 560-1200. Durham One Call will forward all requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day.



Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the department's after-hours emergency phone number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
