County to Observe Veterans Day Holiday
Most DCo Government offices to close on Friday, Nov. 11
Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Friday, November 11, 2022. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Monday, November 14.

County to Host Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Nov. 10
The public is invited to attend the 10th Annual Durham County Veterans Day Recognition and Celebration Program hosted in person for the first time since 2019! The Durham County Veteran Services Department will present its full Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, November 10, at 11 a.m., inside Conference Rooms B and C on the second floor of the Human Services Building at 414 E. Main St. Each year, Durham County recognizes U.S. military veterans of all branches of service during this celebration of patriotism, service, and sacrifice. The theme this year is "Honor"; and the keynote speaker is Dr. Alyshia Smith, Medical Center Director of the Durham VA Health System.

Please note: If you do plan to attend this event, give yourself extra time to arrive as the parking lot next to the HSB is mostly unavailable due to construction of the 500 East Main Street Mixed-Use Development. There are paid parking options on the street and in the Church Street parking deck located on the 100 block of East Main Street.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all three of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on November 11. Durham County residents with a current 2022-2023 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on November 12 under normal hours of operation.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced the week of November 11 will not be affected. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Library
Durham County Library locations will be closed on Friday, November 11 and will return to normal operating hours on Saturday, November 12.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) will follow the Durham County Government Veterans Day holiday closing schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On November 11, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government Veterans Day holiday closing schedule. Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect to an on-call social worker.

Durham County Sheriff's Office
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on November 11 and will reopen on November 14.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
The Durham County Cooperative Extension will be closed on November 11 for Veterans Day. All programs which usually operate on Fridays will not be held. The Extension will re-open with normal business hours on Monday, November 14.

Over the holiday, the public may drop off soil sample boxes and pick up sample supplies from the outside station located in the blue box to the right of the Extension building at 721 Foster St.
