Most Durham County Government Offices to Close for Thanksgiving Holiday

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on both Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25, 2022. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Monday, November 28.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all three of its Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience sites on Thursday, November 24 and Saturday, November 26. Durham County residents with a current 2022-23 solid waste decal can dispose of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's Convenience Sites on Friday, November 25. The sites will return to their regular schedules<https://www.dconc.gov/county-departments/departments-f-z/general-services/solid-waste-recycling-and-litter-control/durham-county-convenience-sites> on Monday, November 28.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced on Thursday, November 24 will have their collection on Saturday, November 26. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 and will reopen on Monday, November 28.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25. Locations will return to normal operating hours on Saturday, November 26.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Thanksgiving holiday closing schedule.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On November 24 and 25, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Thanksgiving holiday. Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect to an on-call social worker.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
The Durham County Cooperative Extension will be closed on November 24-25 for Thanksgiving. All programs which usually operate on Fridays will not be held. The Extension will re-open with normal business hours on Monday, November 28.
Over the holiday, the public may drop off soil sample boxes and pick up sample supplies from the outside station located in the blue box to the right of the Extension building at 721 Foster St.
