January’s ‘In Touch with Durham County’ Show Looks Back at the Year 2022

Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Public Information Office continues to bring residents important information on our programs and services with the “In Touch with Durham County” show for January 2023<https://youtu.be/XAt-DDIhvXs>.

In this month’s episode<https://youtu.be/XAt-DDIhvXs>, host Deborah Craig-Ray, General Manager of Strategic Planning and Innovation, delivers a special episode dedicating the entire show to a review of  events, programs, and people that made 2022 a great year in Durham County!

This quick look back highlights the  exciting and interesting guests who joined us last year. Most of them appeared virtually as we continued to record in separate locations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That did change with the December edition as Economic Development Director Andy Miracle and Emergency Management Division Chief Elizabeth Schroeder visited us in our studio located inside the Administration II Building in downtown Durham!

In 2022, we invited guests to talk about the 2022 Elections and Elections Director Derek Bowens and Kids Voting Durham’s Carolyn Kreuger were guests. Our new County Manager Dr. Kimberly J. Sowell joined us to talk about herself and her plans for Durham County Government. We welcomed back Dr. Mehul Mankad for a special mental health episode, Human Resources’ Dara Richardson talked about hiring during a pandemic, and Sheriff Clarence Birkhead discussed his office’s work. Commissioners Brenda Howerton, Wendy Jacobs, Heidi Carter, and Nimasheena Burns all paid a visit as well! And of course we talked COVID-19 with both Health Director Rod Jenkins and Communications and Public Relations Manager Dr. Alecia Smith from the Durham County Department of Public Health.

But 2022 had so much else going on – from Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen stopping in our community to economic development continuing to boom in the County – it was a wonderful year to be a Durhamite!

We also talked about the many awards Durham County Government won for its innovative service to our residents, the $795 million budget that did not raise taxes, the American Rescue Plan Act’s $62 million in funding for the County, and the half-a-billion dollar Bond Referendum that was overwhelmingly approved by voters.
