Tune In to the February ‘In Touch with Durham County’ Show
We welcome Public Health Education Program Manager Jaeson Smith and Project BUILD Supervisor Arkeem Brooks

Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Public Information Office continues to bring residents important information on our programs and services with the “In Touch with Durham County” show for February 2023<https://youtu.be/f8TbjEcAxOo>.

In this month’s episode<https://youtu.be/f8TbjEcAxOo>, host Deborah Craig-Ray, General Manager of Strategic Planning and Innovation, welcomes Durham County Department of Public Health Education Program Manager Jaeson Smith and Project BUILD Supervisor Arkeem Brooks.

Segment one features Smith, who joined the County at the end of 2022 in a role that has him working within the community on health literacy efforts as well as facilitating partnerships with local organizations to meet the needs of the diverse population of Durham County. He will talk about one of the most recent initiatives  – Bull City Strong – that is bringing together community partners, influencers, journalists and more to spread positive messaging about the County’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brooks joins us in segment two for a discussion of the Project BUILD Gang Intervention Program. This multi-disciplinary program provides coordinated case management and services to Durham County youth and young adults who are at high risk for gang involvement. Brooks discusses his personal connection with this program, the various programs and services it uses directly with Durham County’s youth. Project BUILD's outreach workers work one-on-one with young people to model pro-social behavior, provide behavior coaching, support positive decision-making, encourage education and employment success, and support involvement in pro-social activities.
