Hosted by the City of Durham Public Works Department's Stormwater Division and Keep Durham Beautiful, this year's Creek Week<http://www.durhamcreekweek.org/> observance is set for March 18-25 and offers volunteer opportunities and activities to help people of all ages and abilities learn more about creeks, rivers, and lakes as well as how to keep them healthy.

Throughout the week, residents can join litter cleanups, explore nature, or go on a paddling adventure. Residents may also join in from home by playing Creek Week Bingo or reading books listed on the educational resource guide.

"This is a perfect opportunity for people who care about clean drinking water and litter-free neighborhoods to help make a difference," said Dawn Keyser, program coordinator with Keep Durham Beautiful. "Working together we can prevent litter pollution in Durham and build a safe and healthy environment."

Creek Week has been celebrated in the third week of March each year in Durham since 2009, with 4,117 volunteers collecting 190,637 pounds of litter to date. In a show of inter-agency cooperation, the City's Neighborhood Improvement Services Impact Team and the Durham County General Services Department will ensure litter that is collected is properly disposed of and/or recycled.

To join litter cleanup events and find out more details about other activities in store next week, visit the Creek Week website<http://www.durhamcreekweek.org>.
