THOSE WHO WERE WERE KILLED OR INJURED WHILE BIKING

What: The Ride of Silence is a slow-paced, silent 5-mile bike ride through
the streets of central Durham. This is a global event designed to remember
those who were riding a bike when they were injured or killed each year in
traffic violence and to raise awareness of the need to make our streets
safer. To register for the event, please use this link

Who: Hosted by Bike Durham, a local non-profit that believes everyone
should have access to safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation
regardless of who they are or where they live. Through events, advocacy and
education, Bike Durham empowers all people to walk, bike, and ride transit
more often.

the attached media advisory.

Where: CCB Plaza, 201 Corcoran St, Durham, N.C. 27701
Also, Last night, Durham City Manager Wanda Page released her proposed
budget and Capital Improvements Program
<https://www.durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/50542/FY-24-Proposed-Budget> for
the upcoming year, and it looks like there are significant
proposed investments that will make Durham's streets safer for everyone.

highlights of the proposed funding:

   ($22.5 million)*
   - *I**mproved streets crossings at schools and trails ($1 million)*
   - *Multi-**modal improvements in street *
*resurfacing projects ($600,000) *
   - *Continuation of fare-free transit service on GoDurham and GoDurham
   ACCESS*

Through the Equitable and Green Infrastructure program established by City
Council in 2019 with dedication of 1/2-cent of property tax per year,
funding is proposed for *new sidewalks in Bragtown, East Durham, and

seven historically disinvested communities.
