[Durham INC] Second of 3 town hall sessions with Mayoral Candidates/prior recordings/info on primary voting

Wednesday’s town hall was the second in the series with candidates for
Mayor. This event included *Charlitta Burruss* and *Mike Woodard*
(Sylvester Williams was our first “no-show”.)  The recording can be

*Our next and last town hall of this election season will air on Wednesday
the 20th at* 7PM with the next 3 candidates for Mayor: *Jontae* *Dunston,
Nick Pettiford, and Marshall Williams Jr.*  A link will be posted a day or
two before the event.


We have been using some acronyms during these events. Here are definitions
of those used more frequently:

·       *DCHC* – Durham, Carrboro, Chapel Hill

·       *MPO* – Metropolitan Planning Organization. This is a federally
mandated group to plan transportation in coordination with state (NCDOT)
and federal (DOT) agencies

·       *HEART* – is an unarmed crisis intervention program

·       *SCAD* amendment - Simplifying Codes for More Affordable
Development.  A 50-page proposal produced by developers that has some
interesting and controversial components.



A few notes about the *primary *election:

   - One-stop (registration and voting on the same day) “early voting”
   starts on *September 21st and runs through October 7th*. Locations
   include:
      - *North Regional Library*, 221 Milton Road
      - *East Regional Library, *211 Lick Creek Lane
      - *Durham County Main Library, *300 N Roxboro Street
      -  *South Regional Library, *4505 S Alston Avenue
      -  *NCCU Turner Law Building, *640 Nelson Street
      - *Polls will be open:*

·       Mon - Fri: 8:30am – 6:00pm

·       Sat: 8:30 – 1pm / Oct 7: 8am – 3pm

·       Sun: 12pm – 4pm

   - Voters who do not have an acceptable *photo identification card* can
   get a free photo ID Card from County Boards of Elections located at 201
   N. Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27701. Many Employee and Student IDs are
   acceptable in addition to Drivers Licenses. To learn more about approved

   - Absentees/mail-in voting has already begun.  Absentee request deadline
   is October 3rd.
   - The *primary election will be on October 10th*. On that day, you vote
   at your precinct location. Polls open at 6:30am.
   - The top 2 with the most votes will move on to the General Election for
   Mayor.
   - The top 6 with the most votes will move on to the General Election for
   City Council.
