City of Durham Announces Service Changes for Good Friday



DURHAM, N.C. - Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City facilities and operations, will close to the public on Friday, March 29 in observance of Good Friday.



Solid Waste Holiday Schedule

  *   The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will close on Friday, March 29.
  *   Curbside garbage and recycling will have normal collections Monday through Thursday, but Friday yard waste customers will receive their curbside collections on Monday, April 1.
  *   The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-Facilities> will be closed on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. The facilities will reopen Monday, April 1.
  *   To sign up for collection day alerts and reminders for holiday service changes, visit the department's webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3025/Find-Your-Collection-Day> or download their free Durham Rollout smartphone app<https://www.durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management>.


Parks and Recreation

  *   Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/> (DPR) administrative office and all facilities, including indoor pools, will close on Friday, March 29, and Sunday, March 31, except recreation centers with church rentals.
  *   Athletic fields and picnic shelters are available for rent, and Lake Michie will operate under its regular schedule (Friday, March 29 - Monday, April 1 from 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.). Little River Lake is not yet open for the season.

Downtown Parking

  *   The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will close on Friday, March 29.
  *   On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some City-owned parking garages, and in City-owned surface parking lots.
  *   To check the Special Event Parking Schedule, where the $7 per vehicle rate goes into effect in the Durham Centre, 90 minutes before scheduled events, visit the Special Event Parking Calendar<https://parkdurham.org/calendar.aspx>.

Water and Sewer Emergencies

  *   Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, on weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the Water Management Department's after-hours emergency number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
