County to Recognize Memorial Day 2024
Most DCo Government offices will close on Monday, May 27
Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in recognition of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27, 2024. All County offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Tuesday, May 28.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Centers

The Durham County General Services Department will close all three of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on May 27. Durham County residents with a current 2023-2024 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling and yard waste at the County's Convenience sites on May 28. The Northern and Redwood sites open at 7 a.m. and the Parkwood site opens at 10:30 a.m.

Roadside Recycling

The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced the week of May 27 will maintain the same schedule. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection.

Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the new "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Durham County Library

All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. All locations will reopen on Tuesday, May 28 for regular business hours.

Durham County Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) will follow the Durham County Government Memorial Day holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Public Health clinics, including the COVID-19 vaccination clinic, will reopen on May 28. A reminder that all people ages 6 months and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Durham County Social Services

The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government Memorial Day schedule. Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect. DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation on Tuesday, May 28.

Durham County Sheriff

The Durham County Sheriff's Office patrol division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records departments will be closed on May 27 and reopen on May 28.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
The Durham County Cooperative Extension will close on Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day holiday and reopen on Tuesday, May 28 with normal business hours. Extension programming scheduled for Mondays will not be held.

Board of County Commissioners
The Durham Board of County Commissioners will hold its second Regular Session for the month at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28. The meeting was moved from its normal fourth Monday of the month due to the Memorial Day Holiday. The meeting will feature the Public Hearing on the County Manager's 2024-2025 Recommended Budget.

Memorial Day Remembrance Event
The Durham County Veteran Services Department invites all residents and visitors to attend its annual Memorial Day Remembrance Event on Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m. on the front steps of the Durham County Administration I Building, 200 E. Main St. We will commemorate the National Day of Mourning with a ceremony honoring America's military service members who died while serving their country, including a roll call of the more than 350 known active-duty service members from Durham County who died at war.
