City of Durham Announces Service Changes for Labor Day

DURHAM, N.C. - Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City facilities and operations, will close to the public on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Solid Waste Holiday Schedule

  *   The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will close on Monday, September 2.
  *   Curbside collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be delayed by one business day. Friday yard waste customers will receive their curbside collections on Monday, September 9.
  *   The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-Facilities> will be closed on Monday, September 2. The facilities will reopen Tuesday, September 3.
  *   To sign up for collection day alerts and reminders for holiday service changes, visit the department's webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3025/Find-Your-Collection-Day> or download their free Durham Rollout smartphone app<https://www.durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management>.

City Council Meeting

  *   The City Council regular business meeting<https://www.durhamnc.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=8767> is re-scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, beginning at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
  *   This meeting will be livestreamed on the City's website<https://durham.granicus.com/player/camera/9?publish_id=540&redirect=true>; on the City's YouTube<https://www.youtube.com/CityofDurhamNC>, Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/CityofDurhamNC>, and X <https://x.com/CityofDurhamNC> (formerly known as Twitter) channels; and on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV through the free Boxcast app.

Parks and Recreation

  *   Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/> (DPR) will close its administrative office and all facilities on Monday, September 2.
  *   Athletic fields and picnic shelters are available for rent, and City lakes and outdoor spraygrounds will operate under their regular schedules. Hillside Pool will be open Labor Day, Monday, September 2 from 1 - 5 p.m.

Downtown Parking

  *   The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will close on Monday, September 2.
  *   On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some City-owned parking garages, and in City-owned surface parking lots.

Water and Sewer Emergencies

  *   Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer ovuerflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, on weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the Water Management Department's after-hours emergency number at 919-560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
