Dear Walltown neighbors and Durham residents,

The Planning Department has released the first chapter of the Walltown
Small Area Plan: Policy Guidance for the Former Northgate Mall Site

The document includes 19 policies that shape what is possible at the mall
site regarding affordable housing and retail, community and civic spaces,
transportation, and environmental sustainability. It also highlights
policies from the City’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan

that
are specifically relevant to Northgate. Ultimately, these policies are
intended to guide future development decisions made by City Council about
the former Northgate Mall site.
