Durham Residents Invited to Provide Input on City’s Budget Priorities
Online Registration Now Open for Community Conversations in October and November
DURHAM, N.C. – City of Durham residents are now invited to share their funding priorities for the City’s upcoming budget by joining in Community Conversations<https://www.durhamnc.gov/5175/2025-Community-Conversations> this fall.
What You Need to Know
* Registration<https://www.durhamnc.gov/5175/2025-Community-Conversations> is now open for seven events where residents can share their funding priorities.
* Resident priorities will be shared with City Council and used to inform the City’s FY25-26 Budget.
* Participants 16 years old and over are eligible for a $50 gift card. Participants will also receive free food and beverage, on-site childcare, and Spanish interpretation services.
The City of Durham Budget and Management Services Department will host a series of Community Conversations in October and November, offering residents an opportunity to share their funding priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. These events are designed to gather feedback that will help shape the City’s budget for fiscal year 2025-2026. The City aims to engage residents early in the budget development process, using the insights gained during these conversations to present to the City Council during their budget retreats in February to help inform their funding decisions.
In-Person Conversations
Residents are encouraged to pre-register for the events. Attendees ages 16 and over will be eligible to receive a $50 gift card. Additionally, all participants will be provided with food and beverage, on-site childcare, and Spanish interpretation.
* Thursday, October 17 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St.
* Tuesday, October 29 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Boys and Girls Club of Durham and Orange Counties, 1010 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Suite 300 (youth-focused event).
* Wednesday, November 6 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St.
* Tuesday, November 12 from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Durham County South Regional Library, 4505 S. Alston Ave.
* Saturday, November 16 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Durham County East Regional Library, 211 Lick Creek Ln.
* Thursday, November 21 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Iglesia Presbiteriana Emanuel, 2504 N. Roxboro St. (Spanish-speaking event).
* Saturday, November 23 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Durham County North Regional Library, 221 Milton Rd.
Each session will begin with a community meal, followed by an introduction to the format for the discussion. Attendees will then participate in small group discussions focused on their priorities for the City’s upcoming budget. Previous discussions have covered topics such as affordable housing, public safety, infrastructure, and workforce development. Attendees will also have an opportunity to reflect on how current City spending aligns with these priorities.
