Dean:  Several years ago, our site began to conduct weekly planned "down
days".  The down days were created to provide a weekly opportunity to
conduct extensive clean-up and maintenance/pm activities on the lines.  We
have four production lines on the site and one line is taken down each week
for this activity.  The end result has been a reduction in unplanned down
time to repair things that break as well as improved housekeeping which
positively affects our injury experience.  Hope this helps.

Does any one know where I can find data that shows a correlation between
good safety performance relative to implementing "planned maintenance "
activities?  That is, as opposed to fixing things when they break
