Dear neighbor,
Below is some excellent news.
Durham's Neighborhood College is mostly the result of
Ellen Reckhow and the broad, diverse coalition which
successfully fought the asphalt industry's efforts to
build asphalt plants closer to homes in East Durham.
Established to engage more citizens in local
government, the Neighborhood College is now seeking
participants for the Fall term. The classes will be
held on nine Thursday nights beginning September 15
from 6PM-8:30PM (and on one Saturday morning).
Space in the is limited to 25 people, and applications
will be accepted to create a diverse participant
population from as many Durham neighborhoods as
possible.
Applications are due July 29 and can be found at...

Neighborhood College honored
(Herald-Sun, 16 June 2005)
Durham County's Neighborhood College has been awarded
a 2005 National Association of Counties Achievement
Award. The Neighborhood College, which is a
collaborative between the city and county, was
recognized in the Civic Education and Public
Information category.
The Neighborhood College is a 10-week series of
classes that provides information on key city and
county services, allowing citizens an opportunity to
interact with staff, and learn things about government
that they've always wanted to know but didn't know
whom to ask. The program, offered twice a year, is
taking applications for the fall.
